THE NAME GAME
Nothing is more important than being able to get your dog’s attention quickly. The name game is the best exercise to establish a quick response from your dog whenever you say his name.
Tips for Success:
- Try to avoid using your dog’s name repeatedly. If he doesn’t respond the first time we want to move closer, get the treat in front of their nose and lure them back to us. We don’t want to repeat the name so they learn to tune us out!
- Try to avoid using your dog’s name when you are angry (DO NOT use your dog’s name during “Bad Dog” moments)
- Always make your dog’s name associated with something GOOD
- Older puppies and adult dogs learn to ignore their name quickly if you use an angry tone of voice and/or ‘nag’ them with it.
