Want a Well Focused Dog?

Here are some tips to help make your dog successful:

• Begin working in areas with little to no distraction, then gradually increase distractions.
• Use your dog’s mealtimes to practice these exercises.
• Use tasty treats to practice when distractions are higher, saving “high value” treats for bigger distractions.
• Combine Find It with Hand Targeting to begin teaching coming when called.
• Avoid repeating cues. If your dog doesn’t focus find a less distracting environment.
• Avoid tugging on the leash if your dog doesn’t focus. Try stepping into his peripheral vision instead!
• Avoid harsh tones, using your dog’s name if you are angry, or training when you are frustrated.
